Williams travels to Hartford on Saturday, Oct 3 to take on the Trinity Bantams at 1:30 p.m.
Trinity is 2-0 this year, defeating Colby 34-14 and Bates 43-0. Against Colby the Bantams notched 345 yards passing and 128 rushing. Conversely, against Bates the run game netted 351 yards and passing 183 yards. The Bantams can throw and the Bantams can run.
Trinity QB Jaxon Carroll (#12, Sr.) has thrown for an average of 258.5 yards per game this year. His top target by far is Nolan O’Brien (#11, Grad Student) averaging 87 yards per game. The Bantams have a duo of talented running backs in Josh Woodford (#22, Jr.) and Jack Tosone (#20, Sr.). Trinity plays outstanding team defense led by LB Lincoln Moore (#47, Jr.).
Both the Bantams and the Ephs have played Colby this year, Trinity in its first game and Williams in its second. Both defenses held Colby to essentially the same low total yardage, roughly 225 yards. Offensive output was dramatically different, with Trinity amassing 473 yards and 34 points and Williams only 283 yards and 19 points.
INSIGHTS: Trinity will throw and run and score. The Bantams wore down Bates in a scoreless first quarter, then had their way rushing against the Bobcats as the game progressed. A key to slowing down the Bantams is shutting down WR Nolan O’Brien.
Williams has to move the ball to give its defense a rest, and the Ephs will need to put points on the board. Look for Williams again to establish the run game; freshman RB Jack Fabiano leads the league in rushing by 47 yards per game at 124.5. But the passing game must click for the Ephs against a balanced Trinity defense yielding just 7 points per game.
Trinity leads the all-time series with Williams 42-39-2. Last year Trinity downed Williams 34-28 in overtime.
