Wesleyan prevailed over Williams 25-24.

Force Paradox Resolved
Williams came into the game averaging a league-leading 172 rushing yards per game. Wesleyan’s rushing defense was also first at 85 yards per game. On Saturday the unstoppable force prevailed over the immovable object, as the Ephs amassed 231 yards on 51 carries. Jon Oris led with 86 yards, Owen McHugh ran for 77, Owen Johansen amassed 57 from the wildcat and Will Sheskey added 14. McHugh, Johansen and Sheskey each scored a rushing touchdown. Johansen’s came on the longest run of the day, a 46-yard dash.

Williams lost to the Tufts Jumbos 27-24.

No Quit
Uncharacteristically, Williams was a disastrous 3 for 6 in the red zone with two interceptions and a turnover on downs. The Ephs threw two more interceptions on the day and were 4 of 13 on third down. Yet the game still came down to a final onside kick that the Jumbos recovered.

View from the Sideline (Bates)

Williams defeated the Bates Bobcats 24-21.

The Only Stat That Matters
Bates compiled a slight advantage in many game statistics, including total yardage, rushing yardage, and time of possession. The Bobcats also had the day’s longest play from scrimmage, a 61-yard scamper by NESCAC leading rushing sophomore Ryan Linskey. The Ephs led in tackles for loss, penalty yardage and critically, the final score.

Managing Mistakes
While Williams played far from perfectly, the Ephs did eliminate many of the miscues that haunted them in games past. Williams committed only five penalties and yielded no turnovers and no sacks.

The Ephs Prepared Well
Williams was successful in the first quarter. For the Bantams’ first two offensive series, Trinity was completely stymied. Williams, meanwhile, was able to move the ball effectively with balanced running and passing, moving out to a 14-0 lead. But the Bantams began to figure out the Ephs on both sides of the ball and evened the score at 14 in the second quarter.

Mistakes Matter
